Summer Activities the Whole Family Can Enjoy

Summer Activities the Whole Family Can Enjoy

Summer break is finally here — or at least near! And while the kiddos are probably chomping at the bit for a break from school, Mom and Dad may be feeling a bit unsure about what activities to fill their days with during the long summer months. Have no fear — we're here to help you out with our list of summer activities for the whole family.

Create Your Own Waterpark

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a pool in their backyard or live close to a waterpark. But don't let that stop you from enjoying some fun in the sun this summer. Create a DIY waterpark in a few simple steps.

Turn on a sprinkler or two, or buy a kiddie pool for less than $30 at the local hardware store. You can also search "water activities" on Amazon and take your pick of inflatable pools, slip 'n slides, blow-up slides, water accessories for the trampoline, and other toys your family will enjoy. Buy as many items as your budget will allow, and enjoy your homemade waterpark all season long! The kids will enjoy inviting their friends and neighbors over to enjoy the waterpark à la Mom.

Go on a Picnic

Another fun family activity you don't even have to leave your backyard for is picnicking! Get the little ones involved at the grocery store by having them choose some of their favorite snacks, and ask them to help prepare the food and pack it into the picnic basket. Lay down towels or blankets in the backyard, and bon appétit!

Take a Hike

Hiking is an excellent family activity that will help you get your steps in while soaking up some amazing sights. You don't have to live in Colorado or Arizona to enjoy scenic heights either. Simply Google "hikes near me" or create your own neighborhood hike for an active family outing that even the dogs can participate in! Try to start your hike early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid physical exertion during the hottest times of the day, and don't forget to wear comfortable shoes and pack lots of water and sunscreen.

Nothing Beats A Beach BBQ

Pack up the car with your summer essentials and take an adventure to your local (or not so local) beach! Prepare your favorite BBQ meals, slice some juicy watermelon, and get your R&R on. Be sure to bring pretty of water to stay hydrated, avoid the hours where the sun is at its highest to prevent bad sunburns, and to reapply sunscreen regularly! Pro tip is to bring a beach tent to provide amble shade for when you need a break from playing in the water.

Camping Underneath The Stars

Take advantage of your backyard and camp underneath the stars! Show the kids how to pitch a tent, enjoy stargazing and stories with s'more in the comfort of your own home. For extra credit roll out the outdoor projector for a movie night and start a new Summer tradition they'll always remember. Don't forget the bug repellant
